Biweekly timesheet

For employers who pay every two weeks. Overtime is calculated per workweek, not per pay period, so this timesheet keeps the two weeks in separate tables and totals each, then adds paid time off and holiday hours to reach pay-period gross pay.

Biweekly timesheet: questions people ask

Why can't overtime be averaged over two weeks?

Under federal law each workweek stands alone. 30 hours one week and 50 the next means 10 overtime hours, even though the period totals 80. This is not legal advice.

Do PTO and holiday hours count toward overtime?

Under federal law hours not actually worked, such as PTO and holidays, generally do not count toward the 40-hour threshold. Your policy or state law may differ.

Is holiday pay paid at a premium?

Not required by federal law. If your policy pays holidays at a premium, adjust the holiday pay calculation in your payroll system.

Biweekly or semimonthly — what's the difference?

Biweekly is every two weeks (26 pay periods a year). Semimonthly is twice a month (24 periods), which does not line up with workweeks. Use the general timesheet for semimonthly periods.
