What it does
Remove PDF fields, explained
To remove fillable fields from a PDF, list the form's fields, select the ones to delete (or all of them), choose whether to keep their current values as printed text, and save. PDFBetter does this in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.

The value choice is the key decision. Removing fields without keeping values gives you a clean, non-fillable page — the printed labels and lines stay, the boxes are gone. Keeping values as text turns whatever was typed into ordinary page content, which is the same as flattening those fields. Use the first to strip a form back to paper, the second to lock in answers.
Common reasons: a downloaded form has misaligned or broken fields you want to replace with your own; fields from a previous tool clutter a document you are rebuilding; or a completed form should be sent with some fields fixed and others still fillable. Removing selected fields covers that last case — Flatten PDF can only flatten everything at once, including annotations.
Field removal changes only the interactive layer. Anything printed on the page itself, like box outlines or underscores, stays.

Example
Before and after
A downloaded state vendor registration PDF whose 22 text fields are offset from the printed boxes, so typed answers land on the labels.
All 22 fields removed without keeping values, leaving the clean printed form; new, correctly aligned fields were then added with Create fillable PDF.

- Dynamic XFA forms (built with Adobe LiveCycle) are not standard form fields and cannot be processed; a message explains this.
- Removing a digital signature field from a signed PDF invalidates that signature.
- Printed box outlines, underscores and labels are page content and remain after the fields are removed.
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.
Remove PDF fields: questions people ask
What is the difference between removing fields and flattening?
Removing deletes the interactive fields, with or without their values. Flattening always keeps the values as text and also burns in annotations like comments and highlights.
Can I remove just one field?
Yes. Select only that field in the list; all others stay fillable.
Will the typed answers disappear?
Only if you turn off Keep values as text. With it on, answers remain on the page as normal text.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Field removal runs entirely in your browser.
Can I undo it?
The original file on your device is unchanged; keep it if you might need the fields again.
