Choosing the right budgets & financial statements template

Budgets and financial statements summarize money in a form other people can read: a household plans its month, a small business shows a lender its profit and loss, or a loan applicant lists assets and debts on a personal financial statement. Lenders, landlords, investors and grant makers ask for these, and the numbers need to add up exactly.

PDFBetter's statements are original fillable PDFs that do the arithmetic: section totals, gross profit, net income, total assets and net worth are formulas, and the balance sheet shows any difference between assets and liabilities plus equity so you can catch an error before sending. They are summary formats, not a replacement for bookkeeping software or an accountant's review.

Budget and financial statement templates: questions people ask

Are these statements audited or GAAP-compliant?

No. They are summary formats you fill with your own numbers. A lender may require statements prepared or reviewed by an accountant. This is not accounting or tax advice.

Why doesn't my balance sheet balance?

Check that every asset and liability is entered once and that owner's equity includes current-period earnings. The difference field shows the gap so you can trace it.

Can I use these for a loan application?

You can, but many lenders and the SBA have their own required forms. Use these to organize your numbers, then copy them into the lender's form if one is required.

Are negative numbers supported?

Yes. Enter a minus sign for a loss, a decrease or a negative adjustment; formulas carry the sign through to the totals.
