Pricing and licensing

Foxit's pricing page lists PDF Editor at $129.99 a year, or $10.99 a month on an annual plan billed monthly, and PDF Editor+ at $159.99 a year, or $13.99 a month, which adds eSign with 150 envelopes a year and mobile apps. Foxit Editor 14 is also sold as a perpetual license for $209.99. All plans have a 14-day trial without a credit card. Foxit eSign is also sold on its own: Essentials includes 250 envelopes a year and 10 templates, and Business, with a 5-license minimum, adds unlimited envelopes, bulk sending, web forms and API access.

PDFBetter's browser tools (merge, split, rotate, images to PDF and similar) run on your device and download free without an account. Downloading a document you edited in the editor needs a free account; the Free plan includes 3 such downloads a month with no watermark, plus 3 signature requests, 1 live form with 50 responses, 20 OCR pages and 20 AI credits. Pro costs $15 a month, or $10 a month billed yearly, and a $6 Day Pass gives 24 hours of Pro without a subscription.

Desktop power and professional output

Foxit is a desktop application for Windows and macOS with a web version. It covers PDF/A and PDF/X output, print preflight, accessibility validation, Bates numbering and fillable forms with JavaScript. These matter for legal production, archiving, printing and public-sector publishing.

PDFBetter does not offer those standards tools. It runs in any browser, which helps on Chromebooks, Linux or locked-down work machines, and processes merge, split, rotate and image conversions on your device without uploading. Free desktop apps for Mac and Windows use the same account and documents.

Signing and forms

In Foxit, signature requests come through eSign, either the 150 envelopes a year included with Editor+ or a separate eSign plan; unlimited envelopes and web forms are in eSign Business. Foxit's free online signature-request tool says its signatures are not legally binding.

PDFBetter includes signature requests in every account plan — 3 a month on Free and unlimited on Pro — with signing order, reminders and a completion certificate. Every signer signs with their own cryptographic key. Every completed PDF is digitally sealed and independently time-stamped, with the evidence built into the file. Every plan can require signers to enter a code sent to their email. Forms built in the editor can be published for responses on Free (1 live form) and Pro (10).

AI

Foxit offers AI summarizing, translation, chat, rewriting and multi-document analysis, metered by monthly credits, and sells an AI add-on. PDFBetter includes AI credits in every plan and cites the page numbers each answer draws on, so you can check it against the document.
