What it does
PDF to PNG, explained
PDF to PNG renders the pages you choose as PNG images. PNG is lossless: text edges, thin lines and flat colors stay exactly as rendered, with none of the blur JPG compression adds. That makes it the better choice for text pages, charts, diagrams, logos and screenshots for documentation.

PNG also supports transparency. By default pages are rendered on white, as a PDF viewer shows them. Choose a transparent background and any area the PDF does not paint is left transparent, which is useful for placing a logo or signature page over a colored slide. Pages that paint their own white background stay white.
The trade-off is file size. A text page as PNG is often small, but a page full of photos can be several times larger than the same page as JPG. If you are exporting scanned or photo-heavy pages, PDF to JPG usually makes more sense.
Rendering happens in your browser, so the PDF is not uploaded and the images are free without an account.

Good to know before you start
- Transparency only applies where the PDF paints nothing. Many PDFs, especially scans and exports from office apps, paint a white page background, which stays white.
- PNG files of photo-heavy or scanned pages are much larger than JPG.
- Very large pages at 300 DPI can exceed the image size your browser allows and are then rendered at the largest size it supports.
If something goes wrong
If something goes wrong
- The background is still white after choosing transparent
- The PDF itself draws a white rectangle behind the content. Remove it in the editor, or cut out the background in an image editor.
- The ZIP is very large
- Use 150 DPI, fewer pages, or PDF to JPG for photo pages.
PDF to PNG: questions people ask
Is PNG better quality than JPG?
For text and graphics, yes: PNG is lossless and keeps edges sharp. For photos the visible difference is small and JPG files are much smaller.
Can I get a transparent background?
Yes, choose Transparent. Areas the PDF does not paint become transparent; areas the PDF fills with white stay white.
Which DPI for a slide or a web page?
150 DPI is usually plenty for screens. Use 300 DPI if the image will be printed or cropped heavily.
Is the file uploaded?
No. Pages are rendered in your browser and stay on your device.
Can I convert PNGs back into a PDF?
Yes, with PNG to PDF, which also keeps transparency on a background you choose.
