What it does
PDF to Excel, explained
PDF to Excel finds the tables in a PDF and writes them into an XLSX workbook as real rows and columns. Bank statements, price lists, invoices with line items and financial reports are typical inputs.
Choose one sheet per table when a page holds several separate tables, or one sheet per page when a long table runs across pages and you want to keep page boundaries visible. Cells that contain plain numbers are written as numbers, so SUM and sorting work straight away.
Tables with ruled lines between cells convert most reliably. Tables laid out only with spacing, cells merged across columns, and headers that span two rows need more care; check those parts of the sheet. Scanned statements need OCR first, which this tool can run for you.
If you only need the data for another system rather than a spreadsheet, PDF to CSV gives a plain delimited file and runs in your browser. PDF to Excel runs on our processing servers; without an account you can run 2 conversions, and the Free plan includes 10 a month.

Example
Before and after
A 4-page PDF bank statement with an account summary box on page 1 and a transactions table (date, description, debit, credit, balance) running across all four pages.
An XLSX where the transactions are rows with numeric debit, credit and balance columns, plus a separate sheet for the account summary table.
Settings & formats
What you can control
- Sheet layout
- One sheet per detected table (default), one sheet per PDF page with its tables stacked, or every table on a single sheet.
- Pages
- All pages or a range, useful for skipping cover pages and terms.
- OCR
- Off (default), Auto (only pages without usable text) or On, with up to four languages. Scanned pages are recognized first, then their tables are extracted; recognized pages count as OCR pages.
Input
Output
Good to know before you start
- Text outside tables, such as paragraphs and headings, is not the focus and may be left out or placed in single cells.
- Merged header cells are split, which can leave a header in only the first of the columns it spanned.
- Values with currency symbols, units or footnote marks may arrive as text rather than numbers.
- Fonts, colors and cell shading from the PDF are not reproduced.
- This is a beta conversion; check totals before relying on the output.
If something goes wrong
If something goes wrong
- Columns are shifted on some rows
- The table uses spacing instead of ruled lines and a long value pushed the columns. Fix those rows by hand, or try one sheet per page to isolate the problem area.
- The workbook is empty
- The PDF is probably scanned. Convert again with OCR on.
- Numbers are stored as text
- In Excel, select the column and use Data > Text to Columns, or multiply by 1, to convert them.
PDF to Excel: questions people ask
Can it handle a table that spans several pages?
Yes. With one sheet per table, rows from continuation pages are appended to the same table when the columns line up. Repeated header rows may need deleting.
Will my formulas come back?
No. A PDF only contains the printed results, so you get values. Add formulas again in Excel.
Excel or CSV: which should I use?
Excel keeps several tables in separate sheets and stores numbers as numbers. CSV is a single plain table for importing into accounting or database software.
Can I convert a scanned bank statement?
Yes, with OCR on. Check the figures carefully; OCR can misread similar characters like 5 and S on poor scans.
Do I need an account?
You can run 2 conversions without an account. The Free plan includes 10 conversions a month, Pro 500.
