A one-page balance sheet for small businesses showing what the business owns, what it owes and the owner's equity on a single date. Section totals calculate, and a check line compares total assets with liabilities plus equity so you can see straight away whether something was missed.

Balance sheet: questions people ask
Why must the balance sheet balance?
Everything a business owns was financed either by debt or by the owners. So total assets always equal total liabilities plus equity.
Where does the current loan payment go?
The principal due within the next 12 months is a current liability; the rest of the loan is long-term.
How do I enter accumulated depreciation?
As a positive number. The sheet subtracts it from fixed assets at cost.
Is this the same as a personal financial statement?
No. This covers the business. Lenders often ask owners for a personal financial statement as well.
