Rent receipt: questions people ask
Do landlords have to give rent receipts?
Several states, including New York and Maryland, require a receipt for cash rent payments, and some require one on request. Check your state's landlord-tenant law; this is not legal advice.
Should a partial payment be accepted?
Accepting partial rent can affect an eviction notice in some states. Learn your local rules before accepting a partial payment after a notice.
Can tenants use this for rental assistance programs?
Many programs accept landlord-signed receipts that show the property, period and amount. Check what the program requires.
Should I record a security deposit here?
No. Use the deposit receipt for security deposits so they are not confused with rent.
