Deposit receipt: questions people ask
Can a deposit really be non-refundable?
Often, if the terms were clear and agreed before payment. Some states limit non-refundable deposits for certain consumer transactions. This is not legal advice.
Is a security deposit for a rental home covered here?
Residential security deposits are heavily regulated by state law, with limits, holding and return deadlines. Use this receipt alongside your lease and follow your state's rules.
Should the payer sign the receipt?
Yes, when refund terms matter. The payer's signature shows they saw and accepted the terms.
What happens if the balance is not paid on time?
State it in the terms, for example that the reservation may be released. Without written terms, disputes are harder to resolve.
