How to fill out the Cash receipt

Fill payer and amount
Enter who paid, the amount in figures, and the same amount in words (for example "Two hundred fifty dollars and 00/100").

State the purpose
Describe what the cash pays for, such as "Second installment for used kayak".

Track the balance
If this is a partial payment, enter the total owed before this payment. The balance remaining calculates.

Sign
The person who received the cash signs and prints their name. Give the payer the original or a PDF copy.

Why write the amount in words?
Words are harder to alter than figures. If they differ, the words usually show what was intended.
Should the payer sign too?
It is not required, but a payer signature can help when the receipt confirms an agreed installment plan.
Is a cash receipt enough for my taxes?
It documents the payment. Keep it with any related invoice or agreement; your tax preparer may ask for both.
Can I issue cash receipts from a book with numbers?
