Can an employer confirm employment without the employee's permission?
Many employers confirm only dates and title without consent and require written consent for anything else. Some state laws restrict what may be disclosed.
Should salary be included?
Only if the employee authorizes it, and avoid stating salary history where local law restricts it. Lenders often require pay information.
Does the letter need to be notarized?
Rarely. Some immigration or court uses ask for notarization. Otherwise company letterhead and a signature are standard.
