General Affidavit: questions people ask
What is the difference between an affidavit and a declaration?
An affidavit is sworn before a notary or official. Federal courts and some states accept unsworn declarations signed under penalty of perjury instead.
What happens if a statement is false?
Knowingly false statements in an affidavit can be prosecuted as perjury or false swearing.
Can an affidavit be notarized online?
Many states now allow remote online notarization, where you appear by video and sign electronically. Whether the receiving agency accepts it is a separate question.
Does this work in court?
Courts usually require a caption with the case name and number and may have formatting rules. Use the court's form or have a lawyer prepare it.
