Business credit application: questions people ask
Is a personal guaranty enforceable?
A signed personal guaranty is commonly used to make an owner liable for the company's debt, but enforceability depends on its wording and state law. Have your attorney review it. This is not legal advice.
Can we run a credit report on the applicant?
Business credit reports generally require a legitimate business purpose, which a credit application provides. Pulling an individual guarantor's consumer report requires their authorization under the FCRA.
How many trade references should we ask for?
Three is common. Ask each for the account's opening date, credit limit, high balance and payment pattern.
How should we store completed applications?
They contain EINs and financial data. Store them with restricted access and use Protect PDF before emailing.
