Equipment bill of sale: questions people ask
Do I need to collect sales tax on used equipment?
It depends on your state and whether you are in the business of selling equipment. Occasional sales are exempt in some states. This is not tax advice.
Why record the hour meter?
Hours, not years, drive the value and wear of most machinery. Recording them protects both sides.
Who is responsible during transport?
State it. With buyer pickup, risk usually passes at pickup; with seller delivery, at delivery. Adjust the terms if you agree otherwise.
What if the equipment is still financed?
The lender must be paid and release its lien before ownership can pass free and clear. Do not sign until the payoff is arranged.
