Donation Pledge Form: questions people ask
Is a donation pledge legally binding?
It can be. Some states enforce charitable pledges, especially when the charity relied on them, while many charities choose not to pursue unpaid pledges. This form states the donor's intent; add binding language only after legal review.
Is a pledge tax-deductible when signed?
For individual donors, the deduction generally applies in the year each payment is made, not when the pledge is signed. Donors should ask their tax adviser.
Does the charity need to send a receipt?
For any single contribution of $250 or more, donors need a written acknowledgment from the charity to claim a deduction. Use a donation receipt for each payment.
Can donors sign online?
Yes. Send the form for e-signature or publish it as a web form. Process card payments through your payment provider, not on the PDF.
