What to look for in a pdfFiller alternative
What to look for in a pdfFiller alternative
pdfFiller combines an online editor, a form builder, signing through signNow on Premium, a large forms library and AI tools. Its plans start at $8 a month billed annually or $20 month-to-month, it has no free plan, and in our test it asked for an account before downloading or sharing edited work.
Before switching, list what you actually use: editing existing text, filling government forms, sending for signature, collecting form responses, OCR, or the legal forms library. Few alternatives cover all of them, and the right one depends on which of those jobs you do every month.
PDFBetter: closest all-round match
PDFBetter: closest all-round match
PDFBetter covers editing existing text, filling and building forms, signature requests, Office conversion, OCR, redaction and AI with page citations. The Free plan has no time limit and includes 3 edited-document downloads, 3 signature requests and 1 live form a month; Pro costs $15 a month or $10 billed yearly and makes downloads and signature requests unlimited. Browser tools such as merge and split download without an account.
It suits individuals and small teams who want pdfFiller's core features with simpler pricing. PDFBetter has free desktop apps for Mac and Windows that use the same account and documents as the web; its iPhone and iPad app is coming soon to the App Store, and an Android app is coming soon. It has no cloud-storage integrations, payment collection or state legal forms library.

Acrobat Standard starts at $14.99 a month on an annual plan billed monthly, and Pro, at $19.99, adds OCR, redaction, web forms, bulk send and print and archiving standards such as PDF/X and PDF/A. It is the alternative for designers, legal teams and publishers who need those standards and a desktop app, at a higher price than pdfFiller Basic.
Smallpdf and Sejda: quick online tools
Smallpdf and Sejda: quick online tools
Smallpdf Pro is $12 a month or $9 billed annually and bundles unlimited signing with templates, plus unlimited AI; its free plan has daily download limits. Sejda's free web tools allow 3 tasks per hour, its $5 Web Week Pass suits short projects, and its desktop app processes files locally on Windows, Mac and Linux.
Both suit people who mostly convert, compress, merge and make light edits. Neither replaces pdfFiller's legal forms library, and Sejda has no signature-request audit trail.
DocHub: for Google Workspace
DocHub: for Google Workspace
DocHub is another airSlate product, so it will feel familiar to pdfFiller users. It integrates with Google Drive, Gmail and Classroom on every plan, and Pro adds unlimited signature requests and bulk send. Its free plan is limited to 3 uses a month, its Pro trial needs a card, and its help center says it does not currently offer OCR.
Jotform: web forms and payments
Jotform: web forms and payments
If you used pdfFiller mostly to collect information, Jotform may fit better. Its free Starter plan includes 5 forms and 100 submissions a month, it collects payments through many gateways, and Smart PDF Forms turns a PDF into an online form. Jotform says it cannot edit the text of your PDF.
