What it does
Bank statement to Excel, explained
To get a bank statement into Excel, drop the PDF here, check the reconciliation, and choose Excel (.xlsx). The workbook has one sheet per statement with Date, Description, Money out, Money in and Balance, an “All transactions” sheet that stacks every statement with its name in the first column, and a Reconciliation sheet with each statement's opening balance, totals, closing balance and whether they agree.

The cells are typed. Dates are Excel dates, not text that looks like a date, so sorting by date and grouping by month in a pivot table work immediately. Amounts are numbers with two decimals (none for yen), so SUM, SUMIFS and conditional formatting need no Text to Columns clean-up first. That is the main difference from copying a statement table out of a PDF, where amounts like 1.234,56 or (45.00) usually land as text.
Before the workbook is built, every statement is checked: opening + money in − money out must equal the closing balance, and every printed running balance must follow from the rows above it. Rows that break the chain are highlighted so you can correct a misread amount in the browser rather than hunting for it in Excel later.
For general tables in other PDFs (price lists, reports), PDF to Excel is the better tool. For importing into accounting software, the CSV, OFX and QuickBooks options on the same page are simpler than Excel.
How to do it
Convert a bank statement PDF to Excel in 4 steps
1Your PDF
2Convert
3The new format
- 1
Add the statement PDFs
Several months at once work: each becomes its own sheet.
- 2
Check the reconciliation
Fix any highlighted row; the totals update as you type.
- 3
Choose Excel (.xlsx)
Your edits, deletions and added rows are included.
- 4
Open and analyse
Use the All transactions sheet for pivot tables across statements; the Reconciliation sheet records what was checked.
Example
Before and after
Three monthly PDF statements from the same current account, January to March, with amounts like 2.500,00 and -45,90 and dates like 04.03.
One workbook: three statement sheets, an All transactions sheet whose dates sort correctly and whose Amount column sums to the quarter's net change, and a Reconciliation sheet showing all three statements balance.

Good to know before you start
- Formulas aren't added; the workbook holds values. Add SUM or pivot tables yourself.
- Cell styles from the PDF (colors, bold rows, logos) are not reproduced.
- Sheet names come from file names and are shortened to Excel's 31-character limit.
- Scanned statements need OCR first, and OCR quality limits what can be read.
Bank statement to Excel: questions people ask
Will dates and amounts be real Excel values?
Yes. Dates are written as Excel dates (shown as YYYY-MM-DD; change the number format if you prefer) and amounts as numbers, so sorting and sums work without conversion.
Why are money out and money in separate columns?
That's how most statements print them, and it keeps both positive. The All transactions sheet also has a signed Amount column (money out negative) for formulas and pivot tables.
Can I combine a year of statements in one workbook?
Yes. Add up to 12 PDFs at once; each gets a sheet and all of them appear in All transactions.
What if the workbook total doesn't match my bank?
Check the Reconciliation sheet: it shows each statement's difference. A non-zero difference means a row was misread or deleted; fix it on the page and export again (free within 24 hours).
Does it work for credit card statements?
Yes. Charges go in Money out and payments in Money in, and the check uses previous balance + charges − payments = new balance.
