What it does
Receipt to Excel, explained
To put receipts in Excel, drop up to 10 receipt PDFs or photos here, read them, and download Excel (.xlsx). The Receipts sheet has one row per receipt: file, merchant, date, receipt number, category, payment method, currency, subtotal, tax, whether tax was included in the prices, tip, total, number of items and whether it adds up. The Line items sheet lists every item with quantity, unit price and amount, and the Checks sheet records each check.

Each receipt is checked: the items (plus tax when it's added on top, plus any tip) must equal the total, and the items must equal the subtotal when one is printed. Receipts that include tax in their prices (“VAT included”, “incl. GST”, 内税) are handled: tax isn't added twice. When a receipt doesn't say, both readings are tried and the one that matches is named.
Categories are yours to choose: pick or type one per receipt, or apply one to every receipt that has none. They aren't guessed from the merchant name.
If you're preparing a reimbursement claim, the Expense report export on the same page sorts receipts by date and adds a total per currency.

- Categories aren't assigned automatically.
Receipt to Excel: questions people ask
Can I convert photos of receipts, not just PDFs?
Yes. JPG, PNG and WebP photos work, and HEIC where your browser can open it. Each photo becomes a one-page PDF in your browser and gets a text layer before reading.
How is tax handled when it's included in the prices?
If the receipt says prices include tax, the tax is recorded but not added to the items again. If it doesn't say, both readings are tried and the one that matches the total is shown.
Can I edit a receipt before exporting?
Yes, every field and item is editable, and the check reruns as you type.
What does it cost?
Reading uses from 1 AI credit per page read (the Free plan includes 20 AI credits a month, Pro 500); scans and photos also use OCR pages (20 a month on Free). Exports are free and can be repeated.
Where do my receipts go?
Page text is sent to our AI provider, OpenAI, under API terms that exclude it from model training. The files are saved to your PDFBetter documents, where you can delete them.
