No. You can open the editor and every tool without an account. Browser tools such as merge, split and rotate download free on your device. Downloading an edited document, sharing it or sending it for signature needs a free account — no card. The free plan has no end date and includes 3 edited-document downloads and 3 signature requests a month; signature-request emails sent from Free accounts carry a short “Sent with PDFBetter” footer. Signing security is the same on every plan: each signer signs with their own cryptographic key, the completed PDF is digitally sealed and time-stamped, and you can require a code emailed to the signer before they open the document. Access codes you share by phone or text are on Pro and Business.

A download is one export of an edited document from our servers. Downloading the same unchanged version again doesn't count again — only a new version (after you edit) uses another download. Browser tools never count, because they run on your device.

Guest drafts are kept for 1 hour after you create them. If you create an account (or sign in) from that device, your guest drafts move into your account automatically and stop expiring.

Yes, 7 days, the first time you subscribe to Pro or Business yearly on pdfbetter.com. You choose a plan and add a card at checkout; nothing is charged during the trial. We email you before it ends, and you can cancel any time before then in Settings → Plan & usage — you won't be charged and your account returns to Free. If you keep it, the yearly price is charged when the trial ends. Starter and monthly plans have no trial and are charged at checkout (for example $15/month for Pro monthly). One trial per account: accounts that already had a subscription, on the web or in the App Store, pay from the first day. New accounts themselves start on Free; there's no automatic trial.

Yes. Cancel in Settings → Plan & usage → Cancel plan (or through Manage billing). Your plan stays active until the end of the trial or the period you paid for, then your account returns to Free; you can resume before then with one click. Your documents stay in your account.

Yes. If you paid on pdfbetter.com, email support@pdfbetter.com within 14 days of your first payment for a full refund. Purchases made through Apple's App Store are refunded by Apple under its rules, not by us. If a purchase of credits is refunded, the unused credits from that purchase are removed. Details are in the terms of service.

Business is priced per seat ($24 a month, or $18 a month billed yearly). Each seat is one person in your team workspace. You choose the number of seats at checkout and can change it later from billing; invitations can't exceed your seats.

Stay on Free: 3 edited-document downloads a month, no card and no end date, and browser tools are always free. When you need more, Starter is $5 a month with unlimited downloads. Cancel anytime and you keep it until the end of the period you paid for.

Prices are shown in US dollars without tax. Depending on where you live, sales tax or VAT may be added at checkout, and the checkout page shows the total before you pay.

We tell you before you start the task, not after. You can wait for the next period, buy a credit pack (for AI and fax), or upgrade. Nothing you've already made is locked.

Starter is $5 a month or $39 a year. It includes unlimited edited-document downloads with no watermark, 10 signature requests, 250 MB of storage, 200 OCR pages and 100 conversions a month. AI credits are the same as on Free (20 a month), and you can buy AI credit packs. There's no team workspace, branding, API, bulk send or fax. Starter has no free trial and is charged at checkout; the 7-day trial comes with Pro and Business yearly.

By the tokens (pieces of words) the AI reads and writes for your request, so a short question costs less than a long document. One credit covers about 16,000 tokens read or 3,200 written on our fast model (chat, summaries, translation), and about 800 read or 160 written on our advanced model (the AI assistant, field detection and anything that looks at page images). Instructions the AI re-reads within one request count at a fraction of that. A request never costs less than the price listed for it and never more than 100 credits, and you see what it used as soon as it's done. A question in Chat with PDF usually takes 1 credit; an assistant request that edits a document usually takes a few. Credits come from your monthly allowance first, then from credit packs, which never expire.
